Carotid Disease:
In patients with a symptomatic carotid stenosis (narrowing) a delay in treatment can result in a further stroke. As on the previous page any focal symptoms must be treated seriously and quickly. We know from previous studies, timely surgical intervention can significantly reduce the risk of further stroke and death. The current recommendations advise the ideal time from last event to treatment is less than two weeks. In the table on the right are our results from Christchurch public hospital, demonstrating we've treated over 75% of our patients within two weeks. If you think you've had a mini stroke or temporary loss of vision please don't hesitate to contact the clinic at the earliest convenience. |
This graph represents the number of patients treated within various time periods. Whilst there's always room for improvement these result were achieved during the 18 months following the February Earth Quake and are outstanding by any standard.
